Question:

I have an older computer and do not wish to install Acrobat Reader 6 or 7. Is there a work around that I can use? Can I use older versions of Adobe Reader?

Response:

First you must have a copy of Adobe Reader to view the CD ROM.

Second, the CD has been fully optimised for use with Adobe Reader versions 6 & 7. However as many users may still be using Adobe Reader 5 there is a version of the data on the CD ROM that has also been optimised for use with Adobe Reader version 5.

When you first launch the CD you are given the option to choose which version of Adobe Reader you intend to use. You can choose from versions 5, 6 or 7.

Earlier versions (pre version 5)

The CD ROM has not been tested for compatibility with earlier versions of Adobe Reader and we do not guarantee the performance of the CD ROM with earlier versions, nor do we provide CD Support if you choose to use an early version (such as version 3 or version 4).

Subject to these limitations there may be a work around whereby if you can directly open each PDF document individually from within your main application you could save the document to your hard disk. In these cases the index search would not work neither will any embedded navigation buttons.
